The Academy can offer you the core skills needed for a fulfilling and enjoyable career. Beauty therapists can work in many different environments, below are some examples of the kind of business you could work in.

Working in a salon

Beauty salons can be in many locations including the high street, hotels and fitness centres. You can work in a salon as an employed beauty therapist, rent space within a salon, work on a commission basis or even aspire to owning your own salon.

Mobile therapist

A mobile is usually self-employed and provides treatments in people’s homes. It offers career flexibility and is a popular way of starting your own business.

Freelance work

Freelance is another form of self-employment and describes work required on an adhoc basis, often in the creative industries such as photography, TV, film and theatre. Make-up and nails are the most highly demanded skills in this sector.

Working in a spa

Spas offer a full range of specialist treatments and attract talented passionate therapists. Here you learn how to perform the latest treatments in luxury surroundings. Time spent working in this environment can lead to further career progression in the industry.

Working on cruise ships

Many cruise companies employ beauty therapists, massage specialists and nail technicians. Working on cruise ships will build your expertise. Competition is tough for these jobs and offers the opportunity to work while discovering different places around the world.

Teaching

When you have the relevant beauty qualifications and experience you can take additional teaching qualifications to allow you to teach beauty therapy. Opportunities exist in the further education sector and private training schools. Work can be full or part time.

Sales

Specialist brands employ skilled beauty therapists for sales positions. These roles are often field based and involve selling and training therapists. The work can be varied, interesting and challenging. Major cosmetic brands employ beauty therapists to work in retail, offering treatments and advice to customers. Employment here can offer the chance to develop valuable sales skills.
