Supporting our staff

We’re committed to investing in our staff and supporting their career aspirations. We do this through personal development plans, where we provide training for those looking to enhance their commercial and vocational skills in the professional hair and beauty industry. We also work closely with our brands and suppliers to conduct regular training on products and treatments. Our training initiatives have resulted in Ellisons being recognised as one of the best employers in the UK. Recent awards include Ones to Watch status on the ‘Sunday Times Best Companies to Work for 2020, maintaining the ‘Workplace Well Being Charter’ and consistently achieving ‘Investors in People’ since 2002. In 2018 we were honoured to have achieved the ‘Investor in People’ sixth generation Silver standard and we are now working towards Gold in 2021.

Supporting the community

We proudly support the WorldSkills UK team with competition equipment, products and training. Our UK competitor won gold, in the Beauty Therapy category, at the international WorldSkills competition in Russia August 2019. We also support the annual WorldSkills UK competitions in the UK. As a senior competition sponsor we continue to show our commitment to the industry and excellence as a standard. We are committed to our support of this important national and international initiative and the ethos of excellence it promotes.

Zoë's Place Baby Hospice

We have a long term commitment to Zoё's Place Baby Hospice and focus all of our fundraising efforts to support the care they provide for young children with life limiting conditions and families who also benefit from the support Zoё’s Place can provide. We hold regular coffee mornings, dress down days and various activities to help raise as much money as possible. Zoё's Place provides care and support 24 hours a day for both the child and family. Money raised by our colleagues is matched by Ellisons each year.

Local charity support

We fundraise for our local charities such as the Mary Ann Evans Hospice in Nuneaton and the Warwickshire Wildlife Trust. We also donate raffle prizes to various charities and clubs.

Sustainability

We have a cross department team to focus on sustainability across the business. Continuous improvement is embedded in our processes.

We source responsibly our products and equipment. Our own brand products have minimum packaging and we actively work with our suppliers to look at ways of reducing packaging. We are currently working with suppliers and customers on ways to reduce the use of single use plastics in the supply chain.

We have a modern slavery policy and work closely with our suppliers to ensure our products are ethically sourced and produced.

Our iconic Ellisons parcel boxes are made from sustainably sourced cardboard with a fully recycled lining. The boxes themselves are reusable and recyclable. We have moved from plastic void filling to paper packaging in our parcels as part of our ongoing improvements to help look after the environment.

We set targets each year for waste management and reduction and continually explore ways to reduce our carbon footprint. Over the last few years, we have improved our main building with a new roof, warehouse doors and LED lighting and have installed charging points to allow drivers of electric vehicles to charge on site.
