How to build the perfect apex with The GelBottle Inc
BIAB™ has revolutionised the nail industry — and when it comes to builder gel application, no one does it quite like The GelBottle. Whether you're refining your technique or just starting out, mastering the apex is key to creating strong, long-lasting overlays your clients will love.
What Is the Apex — and Why Does It Matter?
The apex is the highest part of the nail’s structure, typically located just behind the stress point. It’s the powerhouse of durability, especially for clients with weak or brittle nails prone to breakage. Building a strong apex with BIAB™ overlays reinforces the nail’s natural curve, protects the stress point, and ensures your overlays stand the test of time.
Enter: The BIAB™ Bead
The BIAB™ bead is a medium-sized drop of builder gel applied to the nail to sculpt the apex. It’s the secret to a smooth, professional overlay that doesn’t just look good — it performs.
Here’s why it’s a game-changer:
- Strength & Structure
The bead technique ensures the right thickness exactly where it’s needed. It reinforces the stress point, giving your clients nails that feel strong and stay strong. - Smooth Application
Thanks to BIAB™’s self-levelling formula, the bead settles beautifully, reducing the need for excessive filing and refinement. - Long-Lasting Results
A well-placed bead creates a solid foundation that resists lifting, cracking, and chipping — giving your clients builder gel manicures that go the distance.

Myth Busting: Thin Isn’t Always In
While thin layers work for some products, BIAB™ is designed to be built up. Don’t be afraid to use more product when sculpting the apex — it’s all about strategic placement, not bulk. The result? Enhanced durability and performance tailored to each client’s needs.
Step-by-Step: Building the Apex with BIAB™
Here’s how to build the perfect apex using The GelBottle’s BIAB™ system:
1. Prep the Nail
Cleanse the nail, push back cuticles, and lightly buff the surface to remove shine. Shape the free edge to the client’s desired look.
2. Apply Your First Layer
Apply a thin, even layer of BIAB™ and cure for 99 seconds on Low Heat Mode using the TGB Light The Way Lamp.
3. Build the Apex with the Second Layer
Apply a medium bead of BIAB™ to the nail. Push the bead gently toward the cuticle, then float it down to the free edge. Turn the client’s hand upside down for a few seconds to let gravity help shape the apex. Cure for 99 seconds.
4. Optional Third Layer
If a higher apex structure is needed, apply a third layer using the same bead technique. Cure again.
5. Refine the Overlay
Remove the tacky layer and gently file and buff to smooth the surface, focusing on the cuticle area and free edge.
6. Finish with a Top Coat
Seal the look with your chosen TGB Top Coat — whether it’s Extreme Shine, Matte, Rubber Top 2.0, or Glow Top. Cure for 60 seconds or 99 seconds on Low Heat Mode depending on the top coat chosen.
Pro Tips for Apex Perfection
Start Small, Build Up
Begin with a small bead and gradually build. Push the bead gently toward the cuticle, then float it down to the free edge.
Let Gravity Help
After placing the bead, turn the client’s hand upside down for a few seconds. This encourages the gel to settle naturally at the apex.
Consistency Is Key
Work with the product’s self-levelling nature. Avoid overworking it — let BIAB™ do the hard work for you.
