What is the Million Dollar Facial?

What is the Million Dollar Facial?

If your clients are looking for radiant, renewed and younger-looking skin, the Million Dollar Facial is the perfect addition to your treatment menu. Combining clinically proven ingredients with professional techniques such as microneedling, dermaplaning, lymphatic drainage and cryotherapy, this results-focused system targets a range of skin concerns such as ageing, pigmentation, stretch marks and acne scarring. Since its launch in 2018, the Million Dollar system has become the fastest-growing facial treatment system, delivering transformative results backed by science.

So how exactly does the system work, what’s involved, and how can it benefit your professional salon or aesthetic clinics?

An advanced skin treatment system

Million Dollar Facial offers a complete business solution, with cosmeceutical grade products that target and treat all skin types.

Treatment protocols can be tailored to individual skin concerns, including dullness, uneven-looking texture, fine lines and loss of elasticity, subject to a thorough consultation and assessment of skin suitability.

Million Dollar Facial is a highly effective and versatile treatment that can be used on the face, body and hair.

What are the benefits of the Million Dollar Facial?

Million Dollar Facial combines exfoliation, an advanced skincare formulations and professional facial techniques to create a comprehensive treatment experience. For clients, the appeal lies in its focus on visible skin improvements and a more personalised approach to skincare.

Benefits include:

  • A smoother, brighter complexion: Dermaplaning removes surface build-up of dead skin cells and fine vellus hair, leaving the skin smoother and more radiant.
  • Effective product penetration: Dermaplaning improves product penetration by up to 88%, whilst microneedling temporarily enhances the absorption of products applied.
  • Advanced exosome complex: Bio-Cell XO+™ enhances microneedling treatments, boosting skin renewal, firmness, elasticity and hydration while refining texture for a smoother, plumper, more youthful complexion.
  • Improved skin texture and rejuvenation: Microneedling stimulates the skin’s natural healing response and collagen production, reducing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, acne scarring and pigmentation for rejuvenated skin.
  • A tailored treatment: Fully customised to individual skin concerns, with adjustable microneedling depths, speeds and specialist cartridges for precise, targeted results across the face and body, including larger areas such as the legs and abdomen.
  • A premium treatment experience: Enhance microneedling treatments with pearl ice globes to stimulate lymphatic drainage and reduce puffiness, alongside a soothing Cryo-mask to cool and calm the skin for a more indulgent facial experience.

What does a Million Dollar Facial involve?

Microneedling is at the heart of the Million Dollar Facial system, while other steps in the treatment can be added on as part of a complete package to elevate results.

Here’s what the full treatment involves:

1. Consultation and skin analysis

Every treatment should begin with a thorough consultation. Discuss the client's main skin concerns, current skincare routine, treatment history and desired outcomes.

A consultation form should be completed and signed, and the therapist should check for contraindications before proceeding.

This stage helps you determine whether the client is suitable for the proposed treatment, identify areas that may need to be avoided and establish realistic expectations.

Taking before and after photographs, with the client's consent, can also help document progress and support future treatment discussions.

2. Deep cleansing

Thorough cleansing prepares the skin for the treatment stages that follow. Removing make-up, surface impurities and excess oil allow the therapist to assess the complexion more accurately before proceeding.

The Million Dollar AURA cleansing system is a 2-in-1 sonic cleansing and heated eye massage device, suitable for professional and home use. Featuring gentle and deep cleansing modes, its flexible silicone brush head follows facial contours to effectively remove impurities and build-up. The 42°C heated eye massage feature also helps reduce the appearance of puffiness, dryness and dark circles.

Following cleansing and toning, DermaGlide Prep is applied to disinfect the skin in preparation for treatment. Its formula combines 70% alcohol and an antimicrobial peptide to reduce surface bacteria, alongside soothing aloe vera to hydrate and comfort the skin.

3. Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning is a manual exfoliation technique that uses a sterile, specialist blade to gently remove dead surface skin cells and fine vellus hair. Using gentle, controlled strokes, the therapist avoids areas of irritation, active breakouts or broken skin.

Dermaplaning only removes vellus hair and does not touch the terminal hair. By removing only short, fine and soft hairs that are associated with smaller hair follicles, this means that the hair does not grow back thicker or darker, as the hair follicle remains unchanged. Terminal hair is thicker, coarser and darker in colour and is never removed during dermaplaning treatments.

Discover our range of dermaplaning tools and blades, including the Ellisons-exclusive Million Dollar Facial dermaplaning kit, featuring 100 Swann-Morton No. 10 sterile carbon steel blades. The kit also includes a complimentary workshop worth £39 for professionals who already hold a dermaplaning qualification, covering product knowledge, treatment preparation and techniques, aftercare advice and recommended treatment frequency.

Professional tip

Clients with polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS), formerly known as PCOS, may struggle with excess facial hair due to hormonal imbalances. Dermaplaning can still be performed on suitable areas, but coarse terminal hairs should be avoided.

4. Lymphatic drainage massage

Following dermaplaning, the Million Dollar Facial pearl ice globes can be used to provide a soothing, cooling massage that encourages lymphatic drainage, reduces puffiness and inflammation, and stimulates circulation. The globes also tighten the skin, minimise the appearance of enlarged pores and promote relaxation, adding a luxurious touch to the treatment.

5. Targeted ampoules

Professional treatment ampoules deliver concentrated active ingredients to target specific skin concerns and enhance microneedling results.

The Million Dollar Facial range includes Bio-Cell XO+ exosomes, an advanced exosome-led treatment ampoule containing over 8.5 million particles per ml, alongside sodium hyaluronate, panthenol and botanical stem cell lysate. Applied before microneedling, it delivers intense hydration, promotes skin renewal and improves the appearance of firmness, elasticity and uneven texture.

6. Microneedling

Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, uses fine needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin, stimulating its natural healing response. This encourages collagen and elastin production to improve skin texture, firmness and the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and scarring.

The Empire microneedling pen features adjustable needle depths of 0.25–2.5mm and five speed settings, allowing practitioners to tailor treatments to individual skin concerns and treatment areas. Adjustable needle depths provide control over treatment intensity, while interchangeable 12-pin and 36-pin cartridges offer versatility for working across targeted facial areas and larger areas of the body.

Alternatively, the disposable Million Dollar microneedling roller features 540 titanium needles and is particularly suited to larger body areas, such as the legs and abdomen.

Needle depth and treatment frequency should be tailored to the client's skin and treatment area, following a 'progressive, not aggressive' approach. Record the cartridge or roller lot number and expiry date on the client's consultation form for traceability.

Discover microneedling tools and equipment, including the Million Dollar Empire microneedling pen and cartridges (10). This kit also includes a complimentary workshop worth £39 for qualified microneedling professionals to enhance their skills and product knowledge.

7. Cryo-mask and finishing skincare

As the final step of the Million Dollar Facial, apply the Cryo-mask, a professional-grade cooling mask that harnesses the power of cryotherapy to calm inflammation, tighten pores and deliver an immediate brightening effect. Leave on for 10–30 minutes.

Once removed, apply eye cream, moisturiser and SPF 50+ to hydrate and protect the skin. Sun protection is particularly important following exfoliating and advanced skin treatments.

The Cryo-mask can also be recommended as a retail product for at-home use. Finish by providing clear aftercare advice and personalised homecare recommendations to help maintain results.

Professional tip

Refrigerate the Cryo-mask for 30 minutes before application for an extra cooling effect.
